Unwanted Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is the only method to remove unwanted hair permanently.  Shaving, waxing, threading and skin creams can only remove hair temporarily. Best laser in the world today to remove hair is the Diode Laser at 808 nm. It is the same as Light Sheer which was originally introduced by Lumenos. With this laser you can get 80% permanent hair reduction without side effects. Usually three to four treatments are required and they are usually spaced once a month. IPL laser had been used in some instances but it does not give good results since penetration of the skin is less that what is required for permanent hair removal.  And IPL is broad band containing wavelengths from about 600-1000 and only some wavelengths get absorbed by the melanin pigment of the hair.

Anagen Phase (growth phase)

A new hair grows from a hair follicle beneath the surface of the skin. The average hair will grow 1/2 inch (1cm) per month from 2 to 8 years. Active growth stage. The potential length of growth is determined by the length of the anagen phase. People with shorter growth phases cannot grow long hair. Those with longer phases grow longer hair. Approximately 90 percent of hair is in the anagen phase at any given time

Catagen Phase (transitional phase)

After the anagen phase the hair stops growing for a 2-4 week transition when the hair detaches from the blood supply. It signals the end of the active growth of a hair. Only 2-3% of your hair is in this state at the same time.

Telogen Phase (resting phase)

10-15% of your hair enters a resting phase that lasts from 2 to 4 months. As many as 50 to 100 hairs per day will shed during this phase and new hairs will replace the hairs that fall out.

Laser hair removal require about three to four treatments done in monthly intervals. Permanent hair reduction of 80% can be expected in about 80% of the patients.  Usually a test is done on the first day to make sure that the laser works well for the patients skin type without side effects such as skin burns.

For patients who have darker skin we recommend going through a skin lightening treatment with laser, creams, tablets and injections as needed.  You can see more details on how to become fair here.  After the skin has become fair it is safer to remove the hair permanently with the hair removal laser.
